Semmering to Breitenstein along the Bahnweg
Description: A short, just over 10 km hike along the Bahnwanderweg” from Semmering to Breitenstein. There is no snow there yet so we can do this as an easy hike with ups and downs limited to below 350 m. The Alpenverein lists this stretch as 3.5 hours; I walked it in 2.45 hours and including breaks took a total of less than 4 hours. If we have a vesper stop at the 20 Schilling viewpoint and stop for photos here and there, we should easily catch the train at 15:00 from Breitenstein via Wiener Neustadt.
Route: From Semmering Train Station past Wolfsbergkogel Train station, the ‘Doppelreiter’ tower, the “20-Schilling-Blick”, past the Ghega Museum (not open at this time of year) and a few viaducts of the engineering feat of its day, the Semmering train route.

Meet: 8:45 at Wien Main station (Wien Hbf). The train leaves from platform 7a-b at 8:58
Return: Train from Breitenstein at 15:00 arrives in Vienna Main Station at 16:42, changing in Wiener Neustadt*
Cost: Train ticket to Semmering and back from Breitenstein. A full single, one way ticket to Semmering on a RailJet train is 22.60 Euro. On the return, “Einfachraus” ticket is 36 euro for 2 persons, so building groups saves money. We can purchase with an app on the train if time is short.
Registration: By Friday, Jan 6th
Note: We will have a vesper at the 20 Schilling Blick at around noon. Bring something to eat and best a thermos of hot drink. I have not planned a restaurant stop for the day.
