Description: Starting at Maria Taferl, visit to the pilgrimage basilica, descent to Schaufel, slowly up and along the Steinbach with many small waterfalls, then back to Maria Taferl with wonderful views down into the Donau valley and beyond. The restaurants in Maria Taferl close at 2-3 pm, so we will picnic en route and then either have cake/ice cream and coffee at the cafe or a glass of wine on a hotel terrace before returning, starting with the bus 788 to Poechlarn. Distance = 8.5 km. Total elevation difference = 340 m.

Meet: 10:15 near the ticket machines in the main hall of Vienna Hbf. The train (RJX1060) leaves at 10:28 from platform 8C-E.

Return: Arrive in Vienna Hbf at 18:32. We change in St Polten, but the first train goes to Wien Westbahnhof, which might be convenient for some. The second train goes through Wien-Meidling, which also might be more convenient than Hbf.

Cost: Train/bus ticket to Maria Taferl and back, money for the cafe or terrace before returning.

Registration: By Friday, 17.11, at noon.

*Note: Be on time in the morning, the next train is 4 hours later! Wear sturdy shoes and bring all weather gear. The beginning of the walk includes a descent on a rocky and tree root-ridden path, that could be slippery if wet. The rest is broad paths and a couple of short stretches in the villages on small roads. *
